Who are you?
Resident in Orthopedics and Traumatology who relocated from Switzerland to Finland. Father of three lovely girls and a passionate sports enthusiast.
What is your role in FICEBO?
I'm a clinical researcher doing my PhD on analyses linked to the FISH trial.
The Favorite part of your job?
The people I work with. I consider myself lucky as my colleagues are almost exclusively kind and funny, even making the stressful times become enjoyable.
Also, the diversity of my work keeps me constantly learning - it often feels like being a beginner again and again, which is both humbling and motivating.
Why did you decide to enter your field?
In my teens I wrecked my left knee playing football and thus had an insider’s view of orthopaedic surgery. Looking back, that experience planted the seed for my interest in the field and ultimately guided me toward this career.
Who/What inspires you?
I’m inspired by positive-minded people, the beauty of nature, and my family.
The most interesting article you’ve read recently?
Not the newest, but one that remains a favorite: “What is a disease? Perspectives of the public, health professionals and legislators” by Tikkinen et al. It’s a thoughtful reminder that very little in medicine is truly black and white.
Your favorite book and why?
The time, the time by Martin Suter (not related). A short and thought-provoking story illustrating the idea that time is a human construct - and (perhaps) doesn’t really exist.
